DESCRIPTION:  Length up to 7.5mm. A lovely little Dance-Fly with an abdomen that has a greyish upper surface and yellowish sides. The thorax is gray with yellowish sides and bears two dark stripes following the line of the dorsocentral bristles. The legs are reddish. BEHAVIOUR: Adults visit flowers such as Umbellifers, Stitchworts, Rowan and Hawthorn. DISTRIBUTION: A common enough species in England and Wales but becoming less frequent towards the North.  HABITAT: Found in woodland, scrubby grassland, along river banks and road verges, in and around wetlands and coastal dunes. PERIOD: Adults seen during May and June.
